PRESIDENT RANDY
A) CONTROLS AND FUNCTIONS:
1) ON/OFF - VOLUME
a) To switch on your radio, turn knob (1) in the clockwise direction. The display then lights up for 2 seconds.
b)Continue to turn this knob clockwise to increase the sound volume.
2) SQUELCH:
Eliminates undesirable background noise when there is no calls. Turn this squelch button clockwise until you
reach the exact point at which all background noise disappears. This adjustment needs to be made precisely,
since only the strongest signals will be detectable when it is the maximum clockwise position,. Squelch does not
affect the sound volume or the transmission power, but it does considerably improve the listening comfort.
“BUSY” appears on the display when the squelch is open.
3) SPK:

6) FUNCTION KEY (second level):
This key is used together with the keys on the front, to access the second level of each key. Press and hold the “F”
key. “F” appears on the display, then immediately select the function that you want to access which will appear
on the display. Repeat this operation if you want to change or delete the memorized function.
7) TRANSMISSION PEDAL
Press to talk and release to receive message.
8) BELT CLIP
9) BATTERY PACK LOCK
Push upwards and hold while sliding the pack towards the left.
10) 2 / BEEP KEY:
a) Use to input the number 2 on the numeric keypad. If you want to display channel 27, press on the 2 key and
then on 7.
b) Second level function
This function informs you that the radio is working and activates the key beep. This function is active when a
musical note appears on the display.
11) 1 / H/L KEY:
a) Used to input the number 1 on the numeric keypad.b) Second level functionHIGH and LOW power, this
function reduces the power and thus increases your radio’s endurance. Pressing this key activates economic
operation and “LOW” appears on the display. You can also activate economic operation by holding the transmis-
sion pedal (7) pressed down while pressing on “H/L”.
12) DISPLAY LIGHTING
Press once to light the display for 7 sec, press it again to switch it off.
25) MOD
According to standard ETS 300 135, this switch is off and your radio works in FM mode only.
26) EMG / 5 kHz
a) Your RANDY has an emergency key that you can use to access the national emergency channel, namely
channel 9 which is monitored by the police and first aid organizations, at the same time as channel 19 which is the
channel most frequently used by road professionals. This function was installed specially to give the user the
ability to quickly and easily access the two channels which would be used in case of emergency.
Channel 9 will be automatically selected by pressing this key and “EMG” appears on the display. Press on the
” key (29) if you want to obtain channel 19, and press on the “” key (17) again if you want to obtain channel
9 again.
b) Second level function. This switch is inactive, according to standard ETS 300 135.
27) KEY 9 / BAND
a) Used to input the number 9 on the numeric keypad.
b) Second level function. This switch is inactive, according to standard ETS 300 135.
28) CLR (Clear) / ENT (Enter)
a) This key cancels some selected functions such as “Scan”, “Double watch”, “Memory”, “Recall memory”
simply press “CLR” to deactivate these functions.
b) Second level function. This function validates the selection of memorized channels.
This key also deletes all memories. Switch the radio off and then press and hold the “F” key, press and hold
“CRL” key and switch the radio on again and the memorized channels are deleted.
29)
/SC KEY (SCAN)
a) This key scans upwards through channels. Press briefly to go up one channel, press continuously to go down
channels at a rate of 5 per second.
b) Second level function.
This function scans upwards through channels (scanning from 1 -> 40) on all channels. The “SCAN” symbol
appears on the display. Scanning only starts after the squelch level has been adjusted. The function stops when
a signal is detected and restarts 5 seconds after the end of the signal. Scanning may be interrupted by pressing on
the “CLR” key (28).
30) ELECTRET MICROPHONE:
Put the microphone 5-10 cm from your mouth and speak into it with your normal voice.
31) BATTERY PACK:
Your RANDY battery pack contains 8 “AA” type simple alkaline batteries or 8 “AA” rechargeable nickel cad-
mium batteries. Pick up the housing and open it, by separating the two half parts at the top. Then insert the
batteries, taking care with the polarities. Then close the cover.
Note: You can damage your radio if you install the batteries incorrectly.
EXTERNAL POWER SUPPLY AND CHARGING
If you choose the external adapter model No. DA-27 (optional), you can power your PRESIDENT RANDY with
an external DC power source of 7.2 V to 15.6 V DC or you can charge the batteries inside the battery pack. The
batteries will remain uncharged while the LED is on. It will automatically goes off once the batteries have been
fully charged.
32) ADAPTER FOR MOBILE USE
Your PRESIDENT RANDY is delivered with an adapter for plugging into the cigarette lighter and for connecting
a mobile antenna. The red light comes on to tell you when the radio is switched on.
